The Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills group is ideal if you feel you have harmful ways of managing distress, intense emotions that get in the way of relationships or thoughts that you don’t want to be alive. It’s a skills group which means that you get out what practice you put in.
The types of skills we teach are to become more focused on what’s going on in the moment and more aware of yourself (mindfulness), more control over your emotions (emotional regulation), ways to cope in a crisis that help you achieve your long term goals (distress tolerance), getting on better with people (interpersonal effectiveness) and being more flexible in how you think about things which can help reduce conflict with people (walking the middle path).
It’s taught in modules that have 7 sessions each and if you find the group helpful in meeting your goals you get a priority place on the next module.
