Panic is an intense and over powering feeling of fear or anxiety. When we face stressful situations, it can set off our brain’s in-built alarm system which tells us something isn’t right and that we need to deal with it. We call this the Fight, Flight, Freeze response, which is our body’s way of protecting us from harm. You might experience panic attacks, these are sudden episodes of panic which trigger intense feelings in your body such as a racing heartbeat, feeling hot or cold, sweating and much more.
During a panic attack you might feel like you can’t breathe, are having a heart attack or going to die. Most panic attacks last between 5 to 20 minutes and they can come on very quickly. Panic attacks can be frightening, but there are things you can do to help yourself.
